WAHLU (Wildlife and Habitat Land Use) Land Development
The purpose of this page is to create wildlife habitat on the great plains. We will go thru several steps of initial cleanup and establishing a habitat plan for the property. Parts of the plan will include tree and shrub plantings, food plot plantings, grass plantings for cover, and water managment. You will be able to see test plots that have been established to determine the best and most cost effective ways to establish habitat. Test plot results for a 5 year study will be available as the plots progress. Variables in the tests include growth and protection tubes, weed and grasses prevention is studied with the use of weed mats, and chemical controls. Deer and animal damage controls are studied in the tests. Equipment used to establish the habitat is studied, along with tips and tricks that have been found to be effective. Our land development tab gives you more details and the blog link on the page will let you follow our progress in developing the site.
WAHLU (Wildlife and Habitat Land Use) Youth Programs
The purpose of the project is to provide youth with a variety of programs to teach gun safety, hunting ethics, wildlife management principles and habitat development. This is an effort to give youth a starting foundation on which to build their hunting and conservation lives. The series of programs consist of 3 separate programs 1. Youth Hunter Program 2.Youth Shooting Program 3. Outdoor Learning Center. The hunter program provides basic shooting instruction, wildlife habitat projects, first experience hunts and teaches game consumption. The shooting program gives youth the opportunity to improve their shooting skills thru summer programs. The outdoor learning center programs hosts workshops to teach wildlife and habitat education to a variety of youth groups. These programs are a cooperative effort between landowners, sportsmen's clubs and companies or organizations to provide support. The youth tab will give you a more detailed explanation and the blog link on the page will let you follow these programs.
Attitude is Altitude
Once upon a time in a small village, there lived a fisherman and his wife. They had two children named independent and dependent. The fisherman believed in the old saying, " Give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach a man to fish feed him for a lifetime". One day he decided to take his two children with him to teach them how to fish. At the end of the day, the fisherman had caught several fish, but the two children had not even had a bite. The next day the fisherman asked the children if they would like to go fishing again. The child named independent, thought to himself," I failed to catch any fish, but if I am willing to put forth the effort required, I think that I can learn how to catch fish. The child named dependent, thought to himself," I failed to catch any fish, and I am not interested in putting forth the effort required to learn how to catch fish, besides my dad catches enough fish to feed me." The child named independent went fishing again and again and again, until he finally did learn how to catch fish. The child named dependent gave up trying to fish, because he had failed. When the fisherman got too old to fish, the child named dependent went to the child named independent and said to him, "Our father is too old to fish anymore, so I will now depend on you to provide me with the fish I need."
The child named independent was always cheerful and had a good attitude. That child had feelings of satisfaction, accomplishment and pride,
because that child knew that he was capable of creating things, achieve goals, accomplishing tasks, and learning to do anything that he wanted to do in life. The child named dependent was seldom cheerful and his attitude was not good. That child had feelings of low self-esteem, failure and sadness, because he didn't feel he could create, achieve, accomplish or learn to do anything new in life.
The beauty in life is that we each get to choose which child we want to be. No matter what our name is, we get to make that choice again every day.
Your attitude in life will determine how high you will go, what you will accomplish in life and what feelings you will have. .
